When you come to McMillan & Associates for your dental appointment with dentist in Burke, Dr. Alex McMillan, you can expect only the best from our dental team. They are caring and genuine people who go beyond to make sure your smile and well-being are beautiful and healthy.
Their kind-hearted spirit doesn’t stop at the office. They spend time donating their time and energy to help and give back to the community.
In today’s blog, we want to feature Susie, our registered dental hygienist, who keeps busy during and after work hours to make our community a better place.

- Wigs for Kids—I donated just under 12 inches of each braid to Wigs for Kids, a non-profit that provides Hair Replacement Systems for children undergoing chemo, burn victims, Alopecia and Trichotillomania at no cost to the children or their families. Here are the before and after photos:
- Cub Scout volunteering—I’m the Cub Scout Den Leader and about to become the Brownie Troop Leader. In addition to my Cub Scout volunteering, I do presentations on the three Rs at my kids’ schools. I describe the impact of “brown bagging” lunch and how much waste can be eliminated by using all reusable containers, silverware, napkins, and water bottles for 3 kids.
- The Environmentalist in me—I am setting up a trip to the recycling center and we will be planting trees this spring.
- Honor Flight— As a family we also do what’s called the Honor Flight where the whole family goes to greet WWII Veterans on either their arrival or departure trips at IAD to see DC and their memorial. The kids participated in a Memorial Day Ceremony at the Herndon Cemetery, which was held by the Local American Legion Post. We do this stuff once to twice a year, every year for about 2-3 years.
In addition to these volunteer opportunities and on Fridays, I help kids with reading.
I keep busy.
Way to go Susie!
Susie loves to help our community and we are so proud of her of all her accomplishments and hard work!
