At McMillan & Associates, we believe that good dental health
should start from infancy! After all, healthy teeth and gums are
beautiful and contribute to a lifetime of good overall health as well.
This is why each dentist in Burke and Alexandria who is a member of our
dedicated team is passionate about promoting National Children’s Dental
Health Month to encourage great dental health habits all year long.
If your family includes small children, we’re sure that you are just
as invested in taking care of their precious teeth as we at McMillan
& Associates are! So in today’s blog post, we want to share with
you some basics of good oral health for children:
- Brush twice daily using a soft bristled tooth brush. Because
your child’s dexterity is developing well beyond their toddler years, we
suggest you continue to help with their brushing through kindergarten.
For independent youngsters, you may choose to let them brush first, and
then “help” afterwards.
- Floss every day. Once again, your child will need your help
with flossing. It is so important to build this habit at a young age!
- Diet is key! Limit sugary foods and drinks, as these can increase acid-causing bacteria in the mouth and lead to decay.
- Fluoride helps strengthen teeth. If you are on a public water
supply, your child is likely exposed to cavity-fighting fluoride.
Also, we recommend the administration of a professional-strength
fluoride treatment at each of your child’s routine dental visits to help
promote good dental health.
- Regular dental check-ups lead to a lifetime of healthy teeth.
